Photo Montage / Photo Effects / Edit a Photo with the Photo Editor

These photo effects are supported by the photo editor while creating a photo montage. Here is how you use them.

Remove Red Eyes
One of the most popular features of FotoWorks XL: "Remove red eyes". Save your miscarried photos by removing "red eyes" easily and effectively to make your photos look perfect.
  1. Open the photo you want to edit and click on Remove red eyes
  2. First, select the person's natural eye color from the box Color of eye.
  3. Then move the slider Eyes-Threshold rightmost.
  4. Now mark one of the red eyes (red area in the eye only). Click on Remove red eyes and take a look at the result. If this does not meet your demands, click on Undo and move the slider a little more to the left and repeat the steps mentioned above. You can repeat this procedure until the result satisfies your requirements.
  5. Don't forget to click the Undo button to recover the original picture anytime the procedure fails, so you can try again with the next setting.
  6. You can use the slider Eyes Lightness/Luminance additionally if the outcome does not meet your expectations completely.


Picture in Picture
Insert other pictures, texts, cliparts and symbols into a picture.

Further Pictures
  1. Open the picture to edit
  2. Click the button Picture in Picture
  3. Click the button Further Picture and pick another image. When done, click Open
  4. As you can see now, the picture you just selected is now above the original, downscaled and framed. The squares in the corner of the frame can be dragged (hold the left mouse button) to resize the picture.
  5. You can move the picture by holding the left mouse button within the dashed frame and moving the mouse.
  6. As long as the inserted picture is marked, you can apply some more changes to it. See the following description of the "Selected Object" icon bar:
    Rotate picture (90° CW)
    Rotate picture (180° upside down)
    Flip vertically (lengthwise)
    Flip horizontally (hor. axis)
    Place picture to the back - If muliple pictures were put on top of each other. You cannot switch positions with the background picture.
    Place picture to the front - If muliple pictures were put on top of each other. You cannot switch positions with the background picture.
    Delete picture - Remove the marked subpictures with this button.
    Transparency - Change the opacity level of the marked subpicture with this slider. The more you move it to the left the less ophacity will it have.
    Rotation - Rotate the marked subpicture with this slider (0°-360°).
  7. Add as many pictures as you like by repeating step 1 - 6.
Further Pictures with Effect
  1. Open the picture to edit
  2. Click the button Picture in Picture
  3. Click the button Further Picture with Effect
  4. Another window opens. Load a picture via the dialog on the "Open Picture" button and select your desired effect (mask) with the buttons "Next Effect" and "Previous Effect". The effects can also be rotated in 90°-steps.
  5. Now you can see the added picture framed and downscaled on the main picture. The squares in the corner of the frame can be dragged (hold the left mouse button) to resize the picture.
  6. You can also drag the added picture around by clicking it, and moving the mouse with the left mouse button held down.
  7. As the picture is marked (dashed frame), you can apply several other changes to it. See the following description of the "Selected Object" icon bar:
    Rotate picture (90° CW)
    Rotate picture (180° upside down)
    Flip vertically (lengthwise)
    Flip horizontally (hor. axis)
    Place picture to the back - If multiple pictures were put on top of each other. You cannot switch positions with the background picture. This is only provided by the function Create Collage
    Place picture to the front - If multiple pictures were put on top of each other. You cannot switch positions with the background picture.
    Delete picture - Remove the marked subpictures with this button.
    Transparency - Change the opacity level of the marked subpicture with this slider. The more you move it to the left the less opacity will it have.
    Rotation - Rotate the marked subpicture with this slider (0°-360°).
  8. Add as many pictures as you like by repeating step 1 - 7.
Hints: While the "Picture in Picture" mode is active, you can edit or remove every subpicture you've added in there anytime. Just make sure that the correct subpicture is marked (dashed frame) before you click on one of the editing options.
As soon as you click the "OK" button, the subpicture will be attached to the main pictures and cannot be removed anymore.
More effects can be downloaded from the internet. Just click the Download more effects button and get a free FotoWorks XL addon (requires an internet connection).


Batch Processing
  1. Each picture listed in the left bar will be affected by the batch processing. Therefore you should copy them into one single folder first and then open it by clicking then button Open series of pictures.
  2. Click the button Batch Processing. A new dialog opens:
    • Change Brightness/Contrast of all pictures
    • Correction of Color for all pictures
    • Resize all pictures
    • Add shade to all pictures
    • Auto correction of all pictures
  3. Select one of these options
  4. Click the button Continue.
  5. Follow the instructions in the next dialogs.
  6. Brightness/Contrast/Color
  7. Color correction
  8. Resize: Specify a new width for the pictures. The height will be automatically calculated based on the aspect ratio. (You'll find the size of the current picture at the bottom bar of the screen (width x height).)
  9. Add shade: Select your preferred color for the shadow and click the button Continue
  10. Auto correction of all pictures: There are no further options available here.
